The morning after my arrival I woke up to this scene. The clouds came back shortly after but gradually cleared.
Same thing a little later.
By noon most of the clouds had cleared and it was a great day.
The locals say people here love the outdoors.
Native canoe.
Non-native cannon.
Dig the hair. The next group of photos are from Tierra del DeBen National Park.
I got pretty close then he decided to walk away...
Then he did this sort of half jump half fly thing to about 50 feet away.
He almost stepped right on top of Peter Cottontail. I thought these birds ate rabits but they hung out like friends.
Baby rabbits - that's the key. They only like to eat the little ones.
It's like they've got an agreement with the big rabbits that if they keep breeding like rabbits they'll only eat some of the little rabbits.
These hawks were also very common and walk around with the rabbits. It was like a wildlife identity crisis of sorts, or a Disney movie.
Pedro negro.
It seemed like a pretty nice day so I decided to ride to the bottom of the world.
New sign at the end of the road. The road actually ends at Lapataia Bay but everybody talks about Ushuaia and Tierra del Fuego, 'cause they rock.
Just for the record I had to point to where I was.
Closeup of where I was actually pointing, the "you are here" part.
GPS coordinates for the end of the road. You can put the GPS coordinates in Google Earth if you like.
There's a wooden walkway to view Lapataia Bay, and this bird.
Lapataia Bay.
Post office at the end of the world. There's a little wood stove in there and a postmaster guy to send stuff.
Windy at the post office.
A typical road through Tierra del DeBen park.
More Scenery.
I couldn't get enough of this scenery after staring at the flat and windy part of Patagonia for about a week.
The national park is southwest of Ushuaia. These two pictures are from a road that goes about 4 miles east of Ushuaia along the water.
It's a better view of the bigger mountains in the background that you can't see from town.
Back in town, the gold guy from the following scene.
I guess he's a big deal but I didn't get the details.
Islas Malvinas are the Falkland Islands. This is the 25th anniversary of the Falklands war, when Argentina tried to take the islands from the U.K.
Looks like it's been there for a while.
Lots of penguin stuff in town.
I've eaten here 3 times - king crab, then trout, then king crab. It's always good with decent prices and good service.
Just some nice animals keeping warm by the fire. These Argentinean style grills are very common here, there are 5-6 in the town center area.
They have crazy postal guys too!
Old town art.
