Porvenir to El Calafate and Perito Moreno

Anyone who rides a motorcycle to a glacier loses the right to complain about the cold.  So I'm informing you, it was really cold and rainy - and maybe you read about the day I left El Calafate in the salty snow that ruined my chain and sprockets [I wrote about it on April 18th] but it was all very worth it.  Perito Moreno my be the most dramatically fascinating sight of this whole trip.  There are many other glaciers in the area but I didn't want to spend extra days on boat rides to see all the other second-bests.

Click on the image and ride to a glacier.

Sassy Brit chicks, Charlotte and Margi who entertained me in Panahachel, Guatemala.

The photos are a bit late, but who cares!!

Getting on the ferry at Porvenir, to Punta Arenas, on the Chillean side of Tierra del Fuego.

Blue is cool.

Full boat, my bike is hidden behind that red truck.

Land wreck, leaving Porvenir.

Cool sky behind the Austral brewery in Punta Arenas. I never had any but I'm sure it's not as good as their red wine.

More funky sky over Punta Arenas.

Another mouses view of a chapel.

Fuzzy tree, good.

fuzzy tree, bad.

This looked like a scene from "Independence Day" or some other total-destruction of earth movie.

This one makes it a little more clear.

Birds and a big boat.

Pretty much the same.

Just birds.

They have these fake oil drills in the childrens park.

Statue in the center of Punta Arenas.

"Nandu", is the name of those birds. I finally learned that they are also called the "American Ostrich".

They're tough to get close to.

This was the best I could do with my current lense setup.

Sky over Calafate.

Riding into the rain going to Perito Moreno.

Halfway to the Glacier.

First glimpse. This picture doesn't capture the underlying blueness to the whole thing.

Starting from left to right...

panning right...

more right...

Do these 5 layers of clothes make me look fat?!?!

This photo was kind of a blurry mistake but I liked the effect.

I really liked this cool iceburg too.

Size perspective - I'd guess the boat was about 50 feet long. They don't go any closer because if an iceburg breaks off it could capsize the boat.

The iceburg looked cool in any picture but I like this one best.

This is where I wish I had a wide angle lense. I won't make that mistake again...

General ice shots

That's it! You can really see the deeper darker more compacted blue ice near the water line here.
