Belize City, Belmopan (Capital) and Ticks in San Ignacio.

Belize City was, well, whatever.  Off the coast of Belize City are some of the greatest island resorts, with some of the best coral reef diving and snorkeling in the world.  Everyone I've talked to had a great time in Belize and everything I've ever heard has been great so take their word for it.

Belize is like a person to me.  A popular person that everybody seems to like; an attractive person who is sincere, welcoming and generally fun to be around.  But one day this popular person used their mask of sincerity to completely screw me over in a way that I can't forget.  I don't like this person anymore but I can understand why many others do and I can even like people who like Belize but only if they're really cool.  My sour taste of Belize is mainly from two bad cops discovering my one day insurance lapse and taking complete advantage of their position power [but I really do wonder what else they would've tried if my insurance had been legit...].

Click on the image, find a bad cop and like grandpa always said, "skin him and roll him in salt".  Yeah, that'll do.

These boats take you to some of the many fun places off the coast of Belize.

These boats bring you yummy seafood, wherever you are in Belize.

These places provide a mellow, tropical, reggae atmosphere.

These waves bring you positive vibes and a good reggae day.

And you get over 5 months to prepare for the monthly council meeting. Okay I'm kidding, they reverse the day/month so it's actually in Feb.

Boats, more of the fun stuff in Belize.

Political issues that I cannot figure out.

Fast food and an advertisement for Belikin Beer - the worst beer in all the Americas, guaranteed. And I thought that long before the bad cop thing.

Coastal regulars.

Hands-on fishing.

More downtown Belize City scenery.

Throughout the countryside the homes are on stilts, this is one of the larger homes.

In the capital of Belmopan near the capital building. Belmopan is the smallest most boring capital of a country I have ever seen.

I asked someone where the capital building was and they pointed in this general direction and said it's the one with the flag.

The capital building is either this one or the previous one. Everything in Belmopan gets completely silent around 8:30, even on Saturday night.

Stats on Belize. Looks like they mis-spelled affec*ted.

Personalizing the aids epidemic in Belize.

Aids signs are allover in Belize, more than I've seen anywhere; even more than a downtown Community Healthcare Clinic in a large US city.

Typical neighborhood near Georgeville, between Belmopan and San Ignacio.

Same neighborhood, smaller house. There are tons of these little homes around the little towns in Belize.

Home sweet home.

McWolfs burgers, not bad.

The dining area at McWolfs.

More cabin/homes near Georgeville.

Cows, fire and oil - that sounds like a barbeque if you ignore the picture!

Cahal Pech, on the west side of San Ignacio. It really means "Place of Ticks". I bet they were teased about that quite a bit.

Map if you want to follow along. They neglected to mention that the ticks wear uniforms and drive a police truck.

In Plaza B, looking west. The name was given around 1950 when it was discovered. The area was used as a cow pasture, which attracts ticks.

Plaza A lookining SW. The site was occupied between 1000 BC and 800 AD.

El Castillo, south end of Plaza A, tallest structure in the park.

These vaulted ceilings are very common in Mayan architecture.

One of the many narrow little passageways on the site, this one between Plaza D and F.

Many of the rooms had these built in benches, most likely sleeping quarters.

Plaza E, looking east. The site is on a steep hill close to the Macal River bank. It was abandoned around 900 AD.

Plaza F looking NW. The site is still being excavated. Most of the large structures seen were built between 500-700 AD.

This was buried under newer pyramids that were in such bad condition they were cleared away. This structure was given the "built" date of 1 BC.

Hey look, another Pelota court!
