                       Santiago to the Border

The page starts with Barrio Bellavista, the artsy part of town.  There's a couple of wineries where I stopped to check out the local grape products and other shots between Santiago and the Border to Argentina.

Click on the image and go swimming, it's good for you.

The Barrio Bellavista, about 5 blocks by 5 blocks, is largely decorated with paintings.

The blurry background made it appear that the octopus thing was coming off the wall.

Starting over.

More random stuff.

Colorful random.

Do you think drugs were involved in any of this?

This image was in some other areas too.

Introspection - look into the broken mirror for 10 minutes to find your inner broken child.

Who listens to records anymore?

This was my favorite.

They treat children a little differently in Santiago.

Child model.

You can tell that much of this art takes real talent, but then there's this kind of stuff too.

This kid would spin in a circle while working a drum several different ways.

He used his ankle too.

Apartment buildings near my hotel.

Condo's in the building on the left range from $30 k to about $80 k, USD.

My hotel in Santiago, $22 a night.

There are only 5 vineyards that grow the Sauvignon Gris and this is one of them.

That big fat old vine there is one of the originals, from 1912. This type of wine grape is better from very old vines.

In their wine store. This vineyard was about halfway between Santiago and Talca.

This guy is crazy enthused about his job.

Wine and pretty girls, good combo. The tall guy, Roger, told me about the Sauvignon Gris stuff when I asked about the most unique aspect here.

On a church door in Talca. I can't tell if it's a joke or an actual slogan for an animal rights group that wonders why nobody takes them seriously.

The only other picture I took in Talca - it was a boring, drab little town with nothing to do.

Balduzzi Vineyards, located at 35.6 degrees south and 72.3 degrees west.

Most of the wine in Chile seems to have the Latitude and Longitude noted prominently on the bottle. The white thing is a porta pottie, on wheels.

Irrigation is fun!

Old farm stuff, just painted and posed as ambience by the wine store.

Between Talca and Temuco, one of the many little wi-fi rest stops along the road in Chile. Argentina has them too, but they're more reliable in Chile.

The oddly designed cathedral in Osorno.

Heading due East from Osorno to cross the border. I had no idea how great the scenery would be on this ride.

Same thing, different view. I think I like the other one better.

"Salto los Novios, waterfall just 3-5 miles before leaving Chile.

Again, longer exposure.

Laguna la Gallina, on the way to Argentina.
