                    Jujuy, and around

The pictures start from the middle of my day trip to Cafayate and return north to Jujuy, then continue into the beginning of my ascent into the Andes and include Purmamarca, trinket capital of the area.

Click on the image and find 100 goats in the last picture.

Cafayate, street gang, thug graffiti, marking their territory and warning other gangs.

Cafayate Centro, another San Martin statue, this time without the horse.

North of Cafayate, heading back to Salta.

This formation is called "The Devils Throat", same name as the larger part of Iguazu Falls.

I guess this is the throat part.

Apparently Tito made it here.

Last shot of Salta, from the Gondola.

There are two main roads between Salta and Jujuy, this is the curvier fun one.

Foothills of the Andes are very green.

Bike, field, foothills, then the Andes.

Jujuy centro.

Jujuy, Governers mansion, south side of centro.

Gov's mansion at night.

A public service announcement in the centro basically saying to live your life to the fullest and don't do drugs.

This one spells out which drugs not to do, in case there's any confusion.

Another San Francisco church, 3 blocks west of the centro.

Inside San Fran.

San Fran Ceiling.

Same San Fran Ceiling.

Ceiling of the Cathedral on the Town Centro. The greying damage seems to somehow accentuate the original art.

Closeup.

Great restaurant in the centro.

I thought this air-brush art died in the '70's?!

General Belgrano is the man on a horse in the Jujuy centro.

Purmamarca, trinket town.

Trinkets and a cool setting.

I was hoping this town would have a gas station, but they only have trinkets, food and a couple of small hotels for the true trinket troopers.

Just an example of what's available.

Another example.

Last example.

Housing development in a unique setting.

On my way back from getting gas at Tilcara I couldn't help stopping for a few more pictures.

Cemeteries in this part of the world are typically in or on the edge of town, very visible, often on a hillside overlooking the town.

Back at Purmamarca ready to head west into the Andes.

It appears to be general scenery but if you look closer you'll see a couple of people in the foreground and about 100 goats scattered around.
