                Antofagasta to Tocopilla

Antofagasta to Tocopilla.  Didn't I just say that?

Click on the image and stand back.

Barney hides behind a tree and the whacky cotton candy guy says 'peace'

I saw this image in a couple of different places so I'm sure it's someone important but I didn't get the details.

Antofagasta post office.

This colorful cemetery is in the middle of town and can be seen from most places.

Simliar in some ways to the Recoletta Cemetery in Buenos Aires. There's a huge variation in the quality.

This type of building was a little more common here than Buenos Aires.

Some were very well kept.

Another pretty one.

Pretty in a dark artistic way I guess.

An inside glance.

More prominent families.

Realistic graffitti on the back of this one.

Above the main cemetery is the much less colorful burial ground for common-folk.

Looking down from the commoners burial ground.

Back at the fish market, from the previuos page, at closing time when the birds come in for scraps.

This bird was squaking at a cat, who ran away pretty quickly.

Hungry.

"You talkin' ta me?!!?!"

Good gulpers.

More swordfish, it's huge here.

Popular cat hang out.

That's my hotel, it's cheap in the off-season.

Heading out to sea. I wonder how long these guys stay out.

Closer.

At the mall on the south end of town, looking north about 20 minutes after sunset.

About 12 miles north of town is this formation called "Puerto Blanco", or White Door [upper right-hand side of picture].

Near the cliff edge at the White Door.

Another cemetery about halfway between Antofagasta and Tocopilla.

The one with color really stood out.

North end of Tocopilla, looking south. This picture accurately captures the general dirty feeling of the town.

Tocopilla Graffiti.

Next to the previous shot. Pantera is a heavy metal band from the US.

TFD.

Foggy Atacama Winter coastline at Tocopillo.

This is the spazzy marching band I mentioned on July 6, now in a moment of triumph as they are all facing the same direction.

Tocopillo place of worship.
